Allegations by the GOB against the Energy Plan

Allegations by the GOB against the Energy Plan
The GOB of Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera presented yesterday on their respective islands, the allegations against the Pla Director Sectorial Energètic de les Balears. These allegations request the withdrawal of the plan, or at least a complete revision of its contents.

According to the ecological organisation the allegations presented are based on two great axis:

a) The contribution of the Energy Plan to the climatic change. - The determinations imply an increase in the emission of contaminating gases to the atmosphere, particularly CO2, which would aggravate the greenhouse effect and therefore favour climatic change.

b) The increase in electric power sets the basis to continue the same economic development model, in other words tourist and urban growth.

In short, the proposals of the GOB contained in the allegations are:

1.- Stabilise demand.

2.- Introduce measures in transport.

3.- More measures for energy saving and efficiency.

4.- Natural gas should be used to substitute other fuels.

5.- Carbon-coal should be substituted in 15 years.

6. Renewable energies should be promoted more.

7.- There should be commitments to reduce the emission of CO2.

8.- Sant Joan de Deu should be dismantled and no power station should be created..
