These few days there are festivities for Carnival all over the Island.
The youngest celebrate especially and all the schools organise street parades
in fancy dress for this occasion, decorating the streets of the villages
with colour and jollity. .
In Palma, every year there are street parades in the centre of the city:
"Sa Rueta" for the youngest, in the morning and "Sa Rua" for adults
in the afternoon. This year the two parades will take place on Sunday,
February 25.
The carnival fiestas in Algaida are outstanding for their traditional
character, and include the representation of the trial, judgement, and
execution of Sr. "Carnestoltes" a representative doll of the fiestas.
This parade will start at 5.30 on Saturday, February 24 and the festivities
will last through the evening with the Carnival dance.
The Carnival fiestas end on Ash Wednesday, with the traditional burial
of the sardine.
