The
Teatre Principal
in Palma will present on February 23, 25 and 28 the opera "Mefistofele"
by the Italian, Arrigo Boito, within the
XV
Opera Season. It will be the last production in the Teatre Principal
before the imminent renovation work that will take place in the building
which will have to remain closed for two years.
This is a production by the Teatre Principal that has the collaboration
of the
Balearic Symphony
Orchestra and the Teatre Principal Choirs. The stage direction,
the scenography and the figures are by Stefano Poda, and the musical direction
is by Kamal Khan.
The opera "Mefistofele", inspired on "Faust" by Goethe, premiered
at
La Scala in Milan in 1868
but had a cold reception by the public and critics, who accused Boito of
imitating the style of Wagner. Boito initiated then an extensive
process of rewriting the opera which was represented in 1875, this time
with great success.
The present edition of the Teatre Principal Opera Season will include
the production of the opera in concert Der Fliegende Holländer" by
Richard Wagner, on June 8, but the production will take place at the Palma
Auditorium.
