Sant Joan: "Fair" and "Festa des Pa i es Peix"

The town of Sant Joan celebrates in March two festivals: Sunday March 18 the "Artisan, Industrial, Agricultural and Farming Fair" and on Sunday 25 the fiesta of the "Loaves and Fishes" known as the fiesta of the "Fourth Sunday in Lent".

The events programmed for Sunday 18, for the Fair, will start at 10 a.m. with the opening of the exhibitions "To be a woman in the XXI Century" organised by Col·lectiu Teranyines; and "Antique Toys and Instruments" by Aires de Pagesia. At 11 a.m. the fair will be opened officially with the arrival of the authorities, xeremiers and flabiolers from Sant Joan. The day will finish with a dance by Aires de Pagesia, as from 6 p.m.

The "Festa des Pa i es Peix", the fourth Sunday in Lent, which this year will be on March 25, remembers the biblical episode of the multiplying of the loaves and fishes by Jesus. It has been held in Sant Joan for many years, at the Santuari de Consolació with the traditional flower offering to the Virgin, the religious service and the distribution of the traditional "coquetes", blessed rolls that are marked with the five loaves and two fishes of the miracle. This year the events will start at 10.30 a.m. with the walk from the parish church to the Sanctuary, accompanied by the xeremiers and pipers from Sant Joan. The festivities will continue all day with dances, exhibitions, concerts... The fiesta will end with the performance of the play "Una familia improvisada" by the group Biaixos i Capgirons from Sant Joan
