The Museo de Mallorca is holding until July 1 the exhibition "La mirada
de Goya" prepared by
Ibercaja
for the opening of their first branch in Palma.
In the exhibition, figures the "Self portrait" that Francisco de Goya
y Lucientes painted at the age of 30, the four lithographs of the series
"Los toros de Burdeos", and a selection of 28 etchings carried out by the
artist, nine of these of the series "Caprichos", two from the series "Tauromaquias",
eleven from the series "Desastres de la guerra" and, six from the series
"Disparates".
According to the organisers of the exhibition, "Goya survives through
time as he was one of the first artists who questioned the world around
him. He used art with eloquence and some of his canvasses and the
majority of his etchings, the protagonists are criticim, accusation and
satire, as a consequence of personal commitment - political, ethical and
intelectual - with his times. His look, that he aims at us in his
self portrait that presides the exhibition, appeals to each one of us as
if searching for our commitment, our complicity, to manage to get, sooner
rather than later, reason to shine for humanity.
Francisco de Goya y Lucientes was born in Fuendetodos (Zaragoza) in
1746, living in Italy and Madrid, and died in Bourdeaux (France) in 1828.
