Within the fourth edition of Art.Ibiza, Feria Internacional de Arte
Contemporáneo de las Baleares, that is being held from September
21 to 24 in the Fairs Hall in Eivissa, there will be a tribute to the gallerist
Carl
Van der Voort, closely linked to the island in his youth.
Carl Van der Voort (1928) came to Eivissa in the fifties, connecting
immediately with the artistic movement of the island, and linking directly
with the internationally well known "Grup Eivissa 59", a group that dissolved
in 1963, together with the Galería El Corsario, dedicated to holding
exhibitions by the group.
Once this era ended, the Galería Van der Voort, directed by Catalina
Verdera, was the initiative by Carl Van der Voort to promote artists from
the island and to promote exhibitions according to his artistic taste,
and at the same time he opened a graphic workshop in the city of Eivissa,
and later opened, amongst other initiatives, a gallery in U.S.A. where
he lives at present.
Meanwhile, the Ibizan artist, Rafael Tur Costa, announced yesterday
in Palma, within the
Nit
de l'Art 2001, that the Associació d'Artistes Visuals de les
Illes Balears (
AAVIB), has awarded
Carl Van der Voort the Punt Vermell, the distinction that they have awarded
since 1998 to the entity or people or groups that are outstanding in the
promotion of culture
