The exhibition "Els anys elèctrics. 100 anys d'electricitat
a Mallorca" will remain open at Can Beia, old shoe factory in Alaró,
until May 30, 2002.
The exhibition, that was opened last October 6 by the mayor of Alaró,
Josep Gomila, the Councillor for Education and Culture of the Balearic
Government, Damià Pons, the honorary president of Endesa-Gesa,
Felicià Fuster, and the director of Obra Social i Cultural de Sa
Nostra, Andreu Ramis, carries out a trip through the history of electricity
on the island of Mallorca, that had its beginnings on August 15, 1901 when
the town of Alaró received electricity thanks to the initiative
of the brothers Gaspar and Josep Perellé who created the first factory
for this new source of energy.
The exhibition is part of the initiatives to commemorate the 100 years
of electricity on Mallorca that this year is being organised by the
Alaró
Town Council, amongst which is the publication within the "Col·lecció
Manyoc", dedicated to topics about Alaró, of the book "Un poble
en festes. Alaró i l'electrificació de Mallorca" by Joan
Simonet i Clar and Bernat J. Bordoy i Riera, and the comic, "100 anys d'electricitat
a Mallorca" by Miquel Jaume.
