The small village of Estellencs, situated facing the sea in a valley
of deep mountain slopes on the western part of the Serra de Tramuntana,
between Andratx and Banyalbufar, preserves with its 384 inhabitants all
the charm of the real Mallorca. The peace of its stone streets, the
spectacular terraces dedicated to agriculture, the cove with its small
port, the fountain-springs and the singular system of water distribution,
together with many other attractions, such as the welcoming spirit of the
inhabitants, the great number of excursions that can be carried out in
the area or the old church of Saint John the Baptist, make Estellencs one
of the most attractive villages on the Island.
A compulsory visit for those who wish to get to know the North coast
and the Serra de Tramuntana, Estellencs has a small, but select, offer
for accommodation and restaurants. As far as hotels go, the most well known
is the Hotel Maristel with two stars, associate of the chain
Reis
de Mallorca, with a restaurant, swimming pool and tennis court. There
are two more small hotels: the
Hotel
Nord with eight rooms, set in a reformed house in the Plaça
des Triquet, facing the old defence tower; and
Sa
Plana Petit Hotel with five rooms, in a house on the outskirts of the
village towards Andratx.
With respect to the restaurants and bars, in the higher part of the
urban centre are the Restaurant Montimar, the Restaurant Son Llarg and
the Restaurant Maristel. Leaving the village towards Banyalbufar, is the
Pizzeria Giardini; and further away, on the Andratx road, opposite the
petrol station, is the Restaurant Es Grau. Meanwhile, also in the upper
part there is the Cafeteria Estellencs; and in the Cala Estellencs, the
bar Sa Punteta, places where food is also served. Finally, we mention Sa
Tanca, a bar in the lower part of the village, and the meeting point for
the people from the village.
The municipality, that celebrates its patron saint's day for Saint John
the Baptist around August 29, has a public primary school and the majority
of its inhabitants are members of the Cultural Association. Finally, Estellencs
houses the
Fundación S'Olivar.
