After the great success last year for the "
I
Fira del Caragol a Sant Jordi" the Club Prat de Catí is organising
the second edition, that will be held on May 18 and 19, offering a wide
range of entertaining, gastronomic and cultural activities based on snails.
This year the novelty is the "I Cooking competition" in which the basic
ingredient will be snails, with prizes up to 300 €.
The programme of events will start with the children's party and snail
race on Saturday as from 5 p.m., and in the evening as from 9 p.m. there
will be the recipe and dishes of snails competition.
The fair on Sunday 19 will start at 9.30 a.m. with a street parade of
xeremiers, followed by the opening of the exhibitions by artisans, merchants,
businesses, farmers... There will also be tastings of snails and an exhibitions
of autochthonous breeds.
The "Fira del Caragol" has three main objectives: to promote and let
people get to know snails as an alternative or complement to agriculture,
economy, gastronomy, etc. in Sant Jordi, Mallorca and the Islands; to promote
and encourage the merchants, farmers, industrialists, artisans, artists,
etc., in fact to promote the economy and people of Sant Jordi, at
least once a year; and to promote the artisan, autochthonous and ecological
products. It is a fair that banks on quality, offering the visitor different
and special things.
For the "II Fira del Caragol", MallorcaWeb has carried out
photographic
coverage about Sant Jordi that tries to show the charm of this rural
village of the Pla de Palma, very near the airport, where one of the most
important concentrations of Mallorcan windmills can be found, built in
the middle of the XIX century to accelerate the drying out of the marshland
of El Prat de Sant Jordi, a project directed by the engineer, Paul Bouvy.
