"Festes del Carme": maritime processions and celebrations
On July 16 the festivities of la Verge del Carme (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) are held with maritime processions and other cultural and religious events in a large number of Mallorcan coastal villages.

In the ports of Pollença, Andratx, Portocristo, Portocolom... the fiestas last a few days with numerous activities but the central event is the traditional maritime procession in which a large group of adorned fishing and pleasure boats participate, led by the main boat that bears the statue of the Virgin.  The processions are held in the early evening, after the mass in honour of their Patroness.  In Pollença the procession is held early, on the previous Sunday, this year July 14.

The fiestas for the Virgen del Carmen are held in Cala Rajada with a wide selection of events programmed, that also include a land and sea procession on the 16th, followed by fireworks and music by Els Valldemossa.

At the same time, the fiesta del Carmen is also held in some inland villages, such as  es Capdellà.
