The programme for the "XXXVIII Festa des Vermar" in Binissalem began
last weekend, although the main events will take place between September
21 and 29.
La "Vermada" (harvest), that is celebrated every year at the end of
September, when the grapes are picked, is the most important fiesta in
Binissalem. The whole character of this town from the Raiguer, emerges
into the street; "fideus de vermar" (harvest pasta), street parades, dances
and, above all, wine, will accompany this great fiesta of the people from
Binissalem.
The programme for this year includes a wide range of activities: exhibitions,
performances, "glosses" (rhymes), demonstrations, sport, and a long etceteras.
A great part of the events is related directly to the wine harvest, such
as the wine tasting course held these days in Can Gelabert, the grape pressing
by feet competition that will take place on Sunday 22 at 6.30 p.m., the
photographic exhibition "Temes de la Vinya, el Vi i la Verema" that can
be visited in Can Gelabert, and the "2a Fira des Vermar" that will be held
the last weekend of the fiestas, from September 27 to 29.
The traditional float parade "Vermada 2002" will take place on Saturday
28, as from 5 p.m., and the grape competition, and the homage "Ofrena a
Nostra Senyora de Robines del Most Novel", by the selected "vermadors"
and "vermadores", will be celebrated on Sunday 29 as from 11.30 a.m., just
after the Mass.
