Liturgical ornaments and Nativity scenes at the Caputxines

The Convent of the Caputxines, situated in the calle Caputxines in Palma houses an exhibition "A human legacy for divine use. Liturgical ornaments of the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception". The exhibition, sponsored by GESA, with the collaboration of the Mallorcan Council, Sa Nostra Foundation, the Balearic Government, the Palma Town Council and the Palma-Almudaina Rotary Club, has a selection of liturgical ornaments of the Baroque era, preserved by the Caputxina nuns. Many of the fabrics used to make the ornaments that are on show came from the dresses belonging to the Mallorcan noble ladies. The exhibition also has a selection of utensils and instruments relating to the nuns' textile activities.

At the same time, as is traditional, the Caputxines Convent is also holding an exhibition these days "Els Betlems de les Caputxines". The exhibition includes the monumental Nativity Scene (1710) and the collection of Nativity Scenes of the monastery (XVII-XIX centuries) situated in the old work hall. In this same hall this year they are exhibiting a Turkish carpet restored from XVII century, that for centuries was used in the convent church on high holidays.

The two exhibitions can be visited every day of the week until January 9, 2003, except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Visiting times are 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 5 to 8.30 p.m. Donation entrance is 2.50 euros except for children under 10 who enter free.
