Concert by the Fundación Tony Manero in Muro

Concert by the Fundación Tony Manero in Muro
The fiestas for Sant Antoni, patron saint for farm animals, are held around January 17 in a great number of towns of the island: Artà, Muro, Palma, Pollença, Inca, Andratx... Sa Pobla is one of the towns where Sant Antoni is celebrated more intensely, particularly the "Revetlla", the witching night with bonfires and devils, songs and "ximbombades" (special percussion hand drum).

The celebrations in sa Pobla started on Wednesday, with the town cry "Cerimonials de la Revetla, símbols, tractaments i protocols", by the writer Alexandre Ballester i Moragues, official town historian, and the programme for the festivities lasts until January 17 with a wide range of artistic, cultural, musical, sporting, traditional and religious events.

Worth mentioning, besides the witching night of January 16, is the collection of fire wood from the property of sa Llebre for the bonfires of the Parish and the Town Hall, that is held following an ancient tradition, the same day in the morning. As well, on the 17th, the day of Sant Antoni, in the morning there will be a street parade and dances; in the afternoon as from 4 p.m. there will be the traditional animal blessing and float parade.

The fiestas for Sant Antoni in Muro, around January 17, attract visitors from all over the island, particularly the Sant Antoni dance on the 16th, the magic night of the devils and bonfires, the "ximbombades" and the "butifarrons".

This year the dance will have disco-funky music from the 70's by the Fundación Tony Manero. This group that became famous on television thanks to an Mitsubishi spot that used the music of their "Supersexy Girl" song, will present in Muro their third record, "Sweet Movimiento".

The night will also have music by Música Nostra and Escola de Ball de Bunyola amongst others.
