Exhibition by the architect Toyo Ito in Sa Llonja

Exhibition by the architect Toyo Ito in Sa Llonja
The exhibition "Toyo Ito, architect" can be visited until February 20 in Sa Llonja in Palma. Organised by the General Direction of Architecture of the Balearic Government and Casa Asia with collaboration from the COAB, the exhibition presents the creative career of Toyo Ito (Japan, 1941), considered to be one of the most innovative architects in the international panorama since the 80's.

Designed by Toyo Ito himself, the installation features eleven tubes hung from the ceiling of the emblematic Gothic building of Sa Llonja, created with translucent material, that look like luminous columns. Inside the tubes, the Japanese architect presents models, sketches and images of his most significant works, such as the Tower of Winds in Yokohama (1986) or the Sendai Mediatheque (2001). The installation is complemented with large-scale projections and music by the Japanese Ryoji Ikeda.

The opening of the exhibition, held on January 28, was attended by Toyo Ito and the President of the Balearic Government, Francesc Antich, amongst other authorities. Previously, the Japanese architect gave a lecture in the Cultural Centre of "la Caixa" Foundation in Palma.

The entrance is free and the visiting times are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Closed on Sunday afternoon, and on Mondays.
