The rain was not an obstacle and today thousands of people of all ages
have demonstrated through the streets of Palma against the war in Iraq.
The mobilisation, called by the Plataforma per la Democràcia i la
Globalització Social, has been one of the most important remembered
in Palma, comparable with the one organised by the GOB in 1998 demanding
sustainable urban planning.
A group of xeremiers and a banner with the slogan "No a la guerra imperialista"
led the demonstration that went peacefully from the Plaza de España
to the Paseo del Born, where the reporter Cristina Ros read the unitarian
manifest against the war three times so that it could be heard by the hoards
of people who have been calculated by some to be 40,000.
The massive attendance at the demonstrations against the war that this
Saturday have been held in the main cities all over the world is, for many
observers, a clear and conclusive reflection from a society that wants
to participate directly in the matters that affects it. People from
all over the world who respond in a global way in solidarity to a
challenge to humanity, such as living in peace.
