In spite of the economic deceleration, Mallorca is still growing at
an alarming rate. This is the conclusion of the
Report
on the environmental and urban situation that the
GOB
has presented, for the fourth year running. According to the ecological
organisation, the data included in the report of the year 2002, amongst
which it is worth stressing the increase in residential tourism in contrast
with the hotel tourism, confirm that Mallorca is exceeding the logical
limit and advances towards collapse, although the tourist and building
growth rate has been lower.
In view of this situation, the GOB demands urgent action because the
steps taken by the Balearic Government and the Mallorca Insular Council
have not significantly reduced the building activity.
