The traditional cycle of spring fairs continues its course and next
Sunday there will be fairs in Campanet, Campos, Lloret, Felanitx, Sóller
and Son Carrió. All dedicated to farm work, animals, handicrafts...
but each of them with its own singularities.
The fair of
Campanet will include
an exhibition of handmade and autochthonous products, and also animals.
Coinciding with the fair, the Town Hall has programmed some other activities,
such as a concert by the
Coral
Universitat de les Illes Balears in the church (Saturday, 9 p.m.),
a folk performance by the group Al-Mayurqa in the square (Sunday, 5.30
p.m.) and the comedy "S'ensaïmada", at the Casa de Cultura, by Picadís
Teatre (Sunday, 9.30 p.m.).
Within the programme of the fair of
Campos,
available on the web of the
Town Council,
worth mentioning is the Friesian Cow Morphologic Contest and the Food Fair
that will be held during the weekend.
The fair of
Lloret includes amongst
other activities the Cultural Week organised by the CP Antonia Alzina,
but the main part of the programme are the exhibition of animals and the
pony rides for children that will be held on Sunday.
The programme of the fair of
Felanitx,
that can be found in the renewed web of the
Town
Council, includes amongst other activities a street parade by the Joc
de Ministrils and Gegants del Consell de Mallorca, traditional dances,
and a fire race by the
Dimonis
d'Alaró.
The fair of
Sóller, although
it is also held on Sunday with exhibitions of handmade products and animals,
is best known for the battle of Moors and Christians that is held
the day after, Monday 12. "Es Firó" is a historical re-enactment
of the repression of the Moorish invasion, from the landing of the Moors
in the Sóller port to the final victory of the Sollerics after three
bloody battles, the last of which takes place in the main square. It is
a noisy event, with gunfire (thankfully only blanks) and fireworks, where
the pride and enthusiasm of the thousands of people who take part is evident.
Finally, on Sunday there will also be a fair in
Son
Carrió, including autochthonous animals, a competition of linking
horses to carriages, and many other activities.
