The Cultural Centre of the
Fundación
"la Caixa", situated in the old building of the Gran Hotel in the Plaza
Weyler in Palma, is housing, from October 1 till November 30 , 2003, the
exhibition "Del modernismo a las vanguardias. Drawings from the collection
of the Fundación Francisco Godia", that shows the drawings of the
period that began with the modernism and goes up to the Civil War, collected
by Francisco Godia (Barcelona, 1921-1990). In all a total of 64 works are
exhibited carried out by 19 outstanding artists, such as Picasso, Miró,
Juli González, Joaquim Torres-Garcia, Ramon Casas, Isidre Nonell,
Dionís Baixeras, Xavier Gosé, Ismael Smith or Olga Sacharoff.
Popularly known as Paco Godia, this singular man from Barcelona, combines
business with artistic sensibility and car racing. Godia gathered an exceptional
collection of paintings, medieval sculpture and ceramics, that today the
Fundación Francisco Godia
is promoting.
Meanwhile, the Cultural Centre, the
Fundación
"la Caixa" has been housing since July 28 the exhibition "10 años
de cultura, 100 años de historia". The exhibition is to celebrate
the 100 years of the opening of the modernist building designed by Lluís
Domènech i Montaner, and the 10 years since the "La Caixa" foundation
reopened the building as a cultural centre, in 1993. The exhibition, that
can be visited until December 31, is divided in three areas dedicated to
the history of the building, the last ten years since it has been managed
by la Caixa, and the different stages of the modernism movement.
