Sa
Llonja in Palma, one of the most emblematic buildings of civil Gothic
style, is housing until February 1, 2004, the exhibition called "Sirvent.
Escultures 1990-2003", that shows the artistic production carried out by
Josep Maria Sirvent (Llívia, la Cerdanya, 1957) from 1990 to the
present day.
Sirvent, who has been living in Santa Maria for 20 years, presents in
this installation a selection of large and small sculptures in granite
and iron. Self taught, the artist started with paintings and then
experimented with different techniques and decided to centre on contemporary
sculptures inspired mostly by the austerity of the country
of his birth.
Commissioned by Cristina Ros, the exhibition has been organised by the
Palma
Town Council with collaboration from the
Balearic
Government and the
Deutsche Bank
and for this occasion the windows of Sa Llonja have been opened to let
in the maximum amount of natural light.
