Some twenty municipalities on Mallorca will participate in the second
edition of the original cart race called "
Davallada als inferns" (descent
into hell). Organised by the Youth Service of the
Consell de Mallorca, the
race will include semi-finals that will be held between April and May
in Alcúdia, Andratx, Ariany,
Búger, Capdepera, Costitx, Felanitx, Llubí, Inca,
Manacor, Maria de la Salut, Montuïri, Muro, Petra, Porreres,
Santanyí, Santa Eugènia, Sant Joan, Sa Pobla, Son Servera
and Vilafranca.
The first three classified in each semi-final, one for speed, one for
design and one for the best performance, will take part in the final
that will be held on Saturday, May 15, in one of the participating
municipalities, where once the competition is over there will be a
popular dinner, show and end of fiesta. The first prize will be a trip
worth 600 euros, the second and that for the best design and the best
performance will be worth 300 euros each.
Youngsters over 12 can register for the race. The cart has to be home
made, without an engine or pedals, and must have at least three wheels,
brakes and steering, with a maximum size and weight of 2 metres and 150
kilos.
