Deià dedicates a sculpture to archaeologist William Waldren.
The patron saint fiestas in Deià have just begun. As usual, the programme of activities, organised by the Town Council with the collaboration of entities and firms in the municipality, features a complete choice of sports, cultural and religious proposals. Over the weekend, and specially on Sunday 26, is when the most animated events will be held.
The traditional proclamation of the fiestas, this year by Domingo Llull, will take place on Wednesday 23 at 10 p.m. in the municipal amphitheatre, followed by a Havana night with music by Arpellots Havaneres Band and flambé rum for everybody. On Thursday 24, amongst other activities, there will be a Mass dedicated to the patron saint with music by the Coral de Sant Francesc de Paula and traditional dances, followed by the presentation of the sculpture dedicated to William Waldren (1924-2003), founder of the Museu Arqueològic de Deià who was recently declared adoptive son of the village by the Town Council. On Saturday 26 the activities will begin with the popular fishing contest in Sa Cala, which has been held for over 15 years. Finally, the awaited dance with music by the local band Pa Amb Oli Band and other groups will close the Saturday night.
The complete programme of activities, that continues until June 27, can be found in the web of the Town Council.
