The Balearic Government and the Palma Town Council have reached and agreement to finance the one million euros necessary to finish Miquel Barceló's work at the Sant Pere chapel in the Cathedral of Palma.

The intervention by the Mallorca artist in the chapel of Sant Pere of the Palma Cathedral consists of a ceramic mural of 300 square meters that represents the miracle of the multiplication of bread and fish according the Gospel of St John. To carry out the mural, Barceló traveled to Vietri sul Mare (Naples) to work together with ceramist Vincenzo Santoriello. The work was installed in the chapel over one year ago, but cannot be seen yet, because five large stained glass windows and other complementary furniture still have to be constructed. The presentation of the work i expected at the end of 2006.

In 2003, while he was working on the mural for the Cathedral, Sa Llotja in Palma housed a retrospective exhibition about his work. The exhibition was part of a series of exhibitions called "Miquel Barceló at the Balearic Islands" that also reached Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera. The same year he was awarded with one of of prestigious Prince of Asturias prizes. And last month, October, Miquel Barceló presented the book of pictures "The cathedral under the sea", that shows his artistic work in the Sant Pere chapel of the Palma cathedral.

More over, this month, the web site www.miquelbarcelo.info has been launched. This is a project by Miguel Cerdá Bennassar that groups extensive information and hundred of pictures of the artist and his work.
