Salt flats, old school books and nature photography.
With the aim of promoting the important natural and cultural heritage that salt production has left us, the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre in Palma is presenting the exhibition "Salt flats of the Balearics. The invented landscape". The audiovisual installation produced by the Sa Nostra Foundation and commissioned by Miquel Frontera, features information about eleven salt flats in the Balearic Islands:
The exhibition also includes tools related to salt production and some related works of great cultural interest such as the photographies by Francesc Català-Roca, the filmography by Jacinto Esteva or the poetry by Marià Villangómez. The salt flats of the islands, some of which have been working since the punic or roman times, represent nowadays a heritage that is disappearing as the only ones that continue in function are the salt flats of Eivissa, Es Salobrar in Campos and Els Estanys in la Colònia de Sant Jordi.
On the other hand, the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics is presenting in another hall of the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre the exhibition "Reading and school. The reading books of our grandparents. Anthological collection 1900-1950". The exhibition, commissioned by Ramon Bassa and Martín, groups school books that were used in the first half of the 20th century by the children from Mallorca.
Finally, the patio of the same Cultural Centre is housing a selection of the photographies that have participated in the second edition of the Climent Picornell Memorial Nature Photography Contest, organised by the Balearic Ministry of Environment.
The three exhibitions can be visited until November 26th.
