Every Wednesday morning the weekly market takes place in the town of Sineu. This market was started in 1306 by king James II and has always been one of the most important to be held on the island. Sineu and the other towns of the area of the Plain of Mallorca have traditionally been dedicated to agriculture and animal farming so this market has always been the main point of exchanges for the Mallorcan field workers. Although a great part of the peasant character of the market has been lost and few animals can be seen, the Sineu market continues to be the main meeting point for the people of the area, and has become an important tourist attraction for the municipality in the last few years. The stalls are installed in the church square, in the Plaça del Fossar and in the nearby streets. Amongst these, as well as some animals, there are also fruits and vegetables, cheeses, shoes, clothes and artisan products. During the market, as tradition has it, the bars in the town fill with people having breakfast and "elevenses" tasting the local cuisine, particularly the "frit".
Sineu also holds "Sa Fira" every first Sunday in May. This is a traditional agricultural, animal and artisan fair that attracts a large number of visitors from the Pla de Mallorca and all over the island. Established in 1318 by privilege of King Sancho, it is the oldest fair on Mallorca. As well as the usual weekly market stalls, the fair exhibits autochthonous animals, agricultural machinery and cars. There are also the usual fair attractions and different activities such as dog shows for Mallorcan Shepherd dogs and a black pig auction.
Since 2003, the second Sunday in December, the town of Sineu has also held another fair. This is the "Fira de Sant Tomas- Mostra de les Matances", which aims to promote the star product of the pig slaughter: the "sobrassada".
A walk round the streets and squares of Sineu shows the different places of interest such as the parish church of Santa Maria, the ancient Kings' of Mallorca Palace, the ancient Hospital or Convent dels Mínims, now the Town Hall. In the Plaza del Fossar of special interest are the horse trough, the well Es Triquet, the monument to the cyclist Francesc Alomar and the covered market.
