Every year, the first Sunday of December, Montuïri holds the "Fira de sa perdiu" and all day the Plaza Mayor and nearby streets are full of all kind of stalls with traditional food, artisan, ecological and solidarity craftwares. There are also varied activities such as autochthonous animal shows, exhibitions of products of agriculture and fishing, amongst others.
But the most important activity of the Fair is the traditional partridge contest, organised by the Societat de Caçadors de Montuïri, an event that awakens great expectations amongst the inhabitants of Montuïri and all the visitors who come, year after year, to the Fair.
The origin of the contest is the partridge hunting with a decoy, a hunting modality with a long tradition in Mallorca and Menorca considered to be an art as it requires great dedication and patience. The competition consists of placing the participating partridges in a cage on a high place and make them sing to attract other partridges.
