The Cultural Centre of the
Fundació
"la Caixa" in the Balearics, situated in the Plaça de Weyler
of Palma, presents de exhibition "Dürer and his time", that can be
visited from March 7 to June 16, 2002.
The exhibition groups a selection of drawings and engravings created
between 1410 and 1573 in the area that now is Germany. In this period the
new humanist ideas spread throughout Europe influencing and originating
big changes in art. Thanks to the new conception of man in relation to
his environment and the scientific and technical development of the moment,
the artistic methods improved and drawing and engraving, traditionally
regarded as subsidiary and preparatory techniques, were developed to a
very high degree.
The exhibition that holds the Fundació "la Caixa", although it
includes works by some of the most representative artists of the time,
it concentrates on Albrecht Dürer (Nuremberg, 1417-1528), creator
that symbolizes as any other the artistic tendencies of the moment.
