Today, Monday, there will be an extraordinary meeting of the Balearic Cabinet to deal with the sole point on the agenda:
The Draft
Bill for the Insular Councils. The Draft Bill is very important for the future of the Balearics as its main objective is the decentralisation
of the autonomous administration, allowing the insular councils to have more competence and to approach the administration more
to the general public of the individual islands.
The new norm considers the double nature, autonomic and local, of the insular councils, respecting thereby the agreements of the
Progress Pact that enables the formation of a new parliamentary majority and the new Government. The president, Francesc
Antich, has had to make all kinds of adjustments to be able to carry forth this draft bill, trying to balance the
sentence given by the
Consulting Council with the agreements of the
Progress Pact, defended at all times by the president of the Mallorcan Council, Maria
Antònia Munar.
