The Mallorcan Council passes the suspension of building licences

The Mallorcan Council passes the suspension of building licences
Last Tuesday, July 3, the vicepresident of the Consell de Mallorca, Miquel Nadal, announced by surprise the suspension of urban licences that became valid the same day and that affects, with some exception, the whole urban and urbanisable land on Mallorca.
The measure, that has not been passed formally, will be valid until the final approval of the Territorial Plan for Mallorca (PTM), at present under construction, which means that all the Town Councils on Mallorca will not be able to give building permission on urban or urbanisable land for about one year, the time foreseen for the creation and initial approval of the PTM.

The exceptions to the suspension of licences refer to the rehabilitation of homes, the unifamily houses, the commercial buildings, reforms to hotels un certain conditions and public building.

The GOB congratulated the Mallorcan Council and its president, Maria Antònia Munar,  on July 4 in a Press Release for the new measure that they think is the most relevant in urban matters for the past few years, although the ecological organisation considers the measure should affect unifamily houses in rustic land and should not affect the official protection buildings.
