The ascent up the Barranc de Biniaraix is one of the most spectacular excursions on foot that can be carried out along the old stone paths of the Serra de Tramuntana.
The route starts from the old public wash room in Biniaraix, a small village outside Soller. The path ascends along the Barranc and passing via the Coll de l'Ofre some 900 metres high, reaches the Cuber reservoir.
This excursion is long and takes about four hours, but walking only one hour we can reach the high area of the Barranc where we can appreciated all its charm.
The stone walls and other dry stone buildings, the olive tress and other vegetation, the sheep and the donkeys, the streams Ofre and Es Verge (that join shortly before S'Estret) make up an extraordinary attractive natural area.
Except for the path, recently restored by the Consell de Mallorca and that is public property, the properties of the Barranc belong to private owners.
Antoni Font, well known ecologist of the GOB, ex member of the international board of Greenpeace and owner of one of the small properties in the Barranc, published in 2001 a web where he describes the scenic and environmental values of the area.
