According to the
GOB, the decision of the
Palma Town Council to order the reopening of the Canet public road, occupied by the
firm
ParcBIT Desenvolupament SA, is a positive initiative that comes too late, which demonstrates the poor municipal diligence to
preserve public heritage, in this case, a road.
According to the ecological organisation, to the disaster that the construction of the "Parc Bit" represents, must be added the
action of its administrators to close the access from Son Espanyol to Canet. This has not only meant the closure but also the
construction of building right on the very road.
The GOB thinks that the topic of the road is just a consequence of a project that should never have been approved and above all
should never have been carried out. "As we have denounced on many occasions, this complex, that occupies an area of 140
hectares, represents a clear aggression of a rural space of notable scenic value. What is more, from the territorial and
environmental point of view, it constitutes an error to intall the Park outside inhabitable centres and without making use of existing
trading estates. Unfortunately the government of the
Progress Pact has not stopped the project of the previous government in spite
of its territorial and environmental impact."
